► "I trust her completely. She has helped turned my life around. For me she is more than a doctor; "
I suffered very heavy bleeding about a year and half ago. I was bleeding for about four weeks.
I was a member of BUPA however I went to see my local GP for about 3 weeks hoping the tablets they were giving me would sort the problem out.
They did not. I took the advice of a friend and went to see Dr Sheela Purkayastha at BUPA. She was patient, understanding, and I cried throughout my first examination with her because I was so tired of bleeding all the time and frightened. She understood. She discussed a number of options but I asked for the DNC in the first instance thinking this would sort it out. Within 4 months the heavy bleeding returned.
Dr Purkayastha suggested I consider endometrial ablation. Thermachoice balloon. I asked her the pros and cons and she went through the procedure with me.
Her main focus was my well being and even with the treatments ( DNC and thermachoice balloon ) my iron and other hormones were being monitored via blood tests. I agreed to go ahead and then made a mistake on going on the internet to check what other people were saying about the procedure.
I wish I had not as the hype was negative. There were posts of back pain, bleeding, discomfort, mood swings and all sorts of physical and emotional negative feedback.I made an appointment to see Dr Purkayastha as I suddenly was not sure about the procedure. She went through the process with me again patiently explaining it in minute detail.I put my trust in her and I can say that on the day of the operation whilst I was preparing to go in I was praying everything would be all ok and I remember her coming into my room before I was due to go down to the theatre and she simply smiled at me and said " don't worry you will be fine; I will do everything slowly and perfectly; stop worrying"
I had the most wonderful aftercare - the nurse who looked after me prior to going into theatre was right by my side when I came round; she looked after me that evening and was with me the next morning till I was discharged. Dr Purkayastha ensured this. Dr Purkayastha came to visit me after the operation. I was still under the effect of anaesthetic ( anaesthetics and I do not agree however I am fine after 24 hours ).
That evening she called to check how I was and came to see me the next day before I was discharged. I had the surgery on Friday morning and went home on Saturday. I rested on Sunday and I was back at work on Monday.
I have a hectic work schedule and this surgery enabled me to get on with my life again. I have not had any bleeding for about 12 months now; and I am so grateful that I had the thermachoice balloon procedure. But more so because Dr Sheela Purkayastha did the surgery.
I trust her completely. She has helped turned my life around.
For me she is more than a doctor;

► "I want to thank Mrs. Purkayastha for the great care and professionalism she showed when I decided to reduce the size of my inner labia."
I want to thank Mrs. Purkayastha for the great care and professionalism she showed when I decided to reduce the size of my inner labia. It had been on my mind for quite some time to do the surgery and when I got recommended to see Mrs. Purkayastha for a general check-up she informed me of the options and also explained in detail of how the procedure works and what to expect I pretty much decided on the spot to go ahead and do it once and for all. Mrs. Purkayastha was very reassuring and I felt a great confidence in her expertise and as a person, so was very happy when she told me that she would perform the procedure herself.
Mrs. Purkayastha showed great efficiency in booking me in at the hospital and the surgery itself went very smooth and it did not take very long before I could leave the hospital and go back home. I had very clear instructions of aftercare and I did follow them quite rigorously but I was still amazed by how quickly it healed and how little pain I had. Mrs. Purkayastha truly did a tremendous job! She is also very caring and goes beyond what is generally expected; the day after the operation she called to check on me and I felt that I could ask any questions or call her at any time in case something worried me.
From the first consultation, all the way through operation and the weeks after with check-ups, I felt very well taken care of at all times. I have and will continue recommending her to my friends.

► She is knowledgeable and has vast experience and I would gladly recommend her to everyone. I am a happy mother now and I thank her from the bottom of my heart for being such a supportive and caring doctor.
I had an ectopic pregnancy in 2008 and was having problems in conceiving. I met Dr. Purkayastha in 2009 at a family wedding in India and consulted her for the first time. She went through my medical history carefully and gave her valuable advice. Following her advice I conceived in the very next cycle. As it was not possible for her to continue my treatment personally as she practices in UK and I stay in India she discussed my case with some doctors in India and suggested a specialist for me.
Throughout my pregnancy she was in regular contact with the specialist here and made sure I receive optimal care. I sent her all the medical reports after each doctor visit and she promptly responded to all queries. In each stage of pregnancy her valuable advice helped me a lot.
In spite of having a very high risk pregnancy for some critical medical conditions I delivered my healthy twins (a boy & a girl) in January 2010. I am really impressed by the fact that though there is a huge geographical distance between our locations but that didn't matter while receiving her care. She is knowledgeable and has vast experience and I would gladly recommend her to everyone. I am a happy mother now and I thank her from the bottom of my heart for being such a supportive and caring doctor.

► Mrs Purkayastha possess high integrity, empathy and has an interest in people, kindness, respect for others, a good listener, patience and professionalism – I recommend her any time.
I had a very positive experience with Mrs Sheela Puryashta Consultant Gynaecologist it has brought me to a new level of health, well being and strength. My first consultation changed the direction of my confidence and subsequent visits deepen my trust with her.
I now have a glowing smile – being treated well feels wonderful!
How I got this glowing smile – it`s reflecting back to many years gone by. In 2001 my GP had an IUCD inserted which was a copper coil - for 8years that contributed to my heavy bleeding. Tried medication to help reduce my bleeding – but had to face with side effects. Finally got rid of it in 2008, what a relief - Still my GP suggested the Mirena Coil would be a very good option – researched quite a bit – I still wasn`t convinced.
In 2010 – I was referred to see Miss X for investigation - had a hysteroscopy D & C and she managed to convince me into Mirena Coil. I continued to suffer, by now it was not heavy bleeding – after the procedure excessive discharge and frequency of micturation – which happens immediately after food. The Mirena took over my life and left me depressed and tearful extreme water retention and bloatedness.
May 2010 – After having failed to make an appointment with Miss X - and reflecting back – I strongly felt that Miss X was not a good listener , she convinced me with the Mirena and that hysterectomy was the only solution left for treating fibroids. I managed to make a follow up appointment with Mrs Purkayastha - through a very good referral from family. She examined me, prescribed medication for bleeding. Cream for excessive discharge. She also reassured me that Mirena is one of the very good treatments for my kind of fibroid – and there are other options available – embolisation, resection of the fibroids or last option abdominal hysterectomy. Same day after seeing Mrs P I was so sick, my husband took me to A & E to remove the Mirena Coil – I felt so much better.
I decided to go for embolisation – Mrs Purkayastha very kindly arranged for me to see Dr Hamady - some scans and MRI results showed that resection was a better option.
February 2011 – Still suffering from severe Menorrhagia and Dysmenorrhoea due to fibroids. . I was given an injection to shrink the fibroids and finally Mrs Purkayastha made a decision to perform a hysteroscopy and attempt to do an endometrical resection at the same to time.
Both the fibroids jutting out into the cavity of the womb – were resected satisfactorily at the same time.
I made an excellent postoperative recovery and remained pain free during my recovery.
My reflection – Mrs Purkayastha possess high integrity, empathy and has an interest in people, kindness, respect for others, a good listener, patience and professionalism – I recommend her any time.

► "I was most impressed at the very close eye she kept on me, both following surgery in the Cromwell Hospital as I was recovering and also when I returned to my home."
When, in 2006, I was experiencing gynaecological problems, I was highly recommended to consult Mrs Sheela Purkayastha by a friend of mine, who is in her eighties and has been a patient of hers for a number of years.
When I went for my first appointment, I found Mrs Purkayastha most professional. She made me feel totally at ease and I immediately felt able to discuss all my concerns with her very readily. After the initial examination, she suggested various options that might help to avoid surgery. These methods were tried, but to no avail. I then agreed with her recommendation that surgery was the only other option and that it had become essential.
Following surgery in April 2007, I experienced further problems that also required Mrs Purkayastha’s attention. Throughout this entire time, Mrs Purkayastha always ensured that I fully understood every surgical or treatment procedure that she intended to carry out. I was most impressed at the very close eye she kept on me, both following surgery in the Cromwell Hospital as I was recovering and also when I returned to my home. Mrs Purkayastha is exceptionally kind and caring. Both her pre-operative and post-operative care go well beyond the call of duty. I would like you to know that I have the greatest confidence in her professional abilities. I cannot sing her praises highly enough. Mrs Purkayastha is a first class surgeon and a superb doctor and I commend her highly to any other woman who requires her services.

► " she was very reassuring and obviously had had extensive experience of treating gynaecological conditions."
I was first treated by Mrs Purkayastha six years ago, when a regular smear test identified abnormal cervical cells. I was referred to Mrs Purkayastha for a colposcopy, which revealed that the cells were grade CIN III. The abnormal cells were successfully removed in an operation and all of my smear tests since then have been normal. This year I was experiencing prolonged monthly bleeding, so I booked an appointment with Mrs Purkayastha directly. She referred me for a pelvic scan, which revealed that I had a number of small polyps on the wall of my uterus. The polyps were removed by Mrs Purkayastha in an operation two weeks later.
Each time that I have seen her, she has been helpful and efficient and has treated me with respect. I was nervous when I had my first consultation with her but she was very reassuring and obviously had had extensive experience of treating gynaecological conditions. None of the procedures were painful and the reality of treatment was much less frightening than I had thought that it would be.
I continue to see Mrs Purkayastha for my annual smear tests, despite the fact that the standard recommendation is to have a smear test less often. As I have learned, it is better to identify a problem and to have it treated successfully than to leave potentially life threatening conditions untreated. I refer her to all my friends.

I was referred to Dr Purkayastha in 2002 with suspected pcos after my GP told me there was nothing further he could do for me. i was thrilled with how quickly Dr Purkayastha had the tests on me carried out and her planning for my treatment was extremely efficient and sucessful.
I am a woman in my 40's and i had a healthy baby boy last year without any fertility treatments.
I find Dr Purkayastha to be very professional and kind and she take a real personal interest in her patients. i would have no hesitation in recommending her to any of my friends or family.
